1. About these Terms
These Terms are a contract between you and the operator of Al Desko (we, us or our). By using the website or making a submission, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the website. Our Privacy & Cookies Policy explains how personal data is used. The community-content provisions applicable to the MVP are included in sections 6 to 8 of these Terms; there is no separate Community Content Policy.
2. Definitions
Content means the text, data, scores, graphics, branding, software, design and other material available through the website. Submission means a restaurant suggestion, issue report, correction or other material submitted by a user. User Content means a Submission supplied by a user. Website Content means Content supplied by us or our licensors, excluding User Content.
3. The website
Al Desko is an information and discovery service that provides curated restaurant listings, practical lunch information, scores and locations. No account is required and the service is currently free. We do not operate the listed restaurants, make bookings, sell their services or become a party to your dealings with them. A listing does not imply endorsement, accreditation or a commercial relationship.
Restaurant information changes. Verify opening times, menus, prices, allergens, availability, accessibility and other important details directly with the restaurant.
4. Who may use the website
You may use the website only if you can lawfully agree to these Terms. It is not directed specifically at children under 13. If you are under 18, use it with a parent or guardian's involvement and permission. Do not submit personal information about another person.
5. Licence to use the website
We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the website and Website Content for lawful, personal and non-commercial purposes. Except where law permits or we consent in writing, you must not copy, republish, distribute, sell, license, scrape, data-mine, build a database from, commercially exploit or create derivative works from it. All other rights are reserved.
6. Making a Submission
You may use the forms to suggest a lunch spot or report an issue, and may submit anonymous numeric ratings where available. No account or contact details are required. A Submission is reviewed and does not appear automatically. We may approve, reject, edit, format, aggregate, delay or remove it. We do not have to publish a Submission, explain a decision or retain rejected material.
Submit only genuine, independent and relevant information based on your own knowledge or experience. Do not submit duplicates, coordinate submissions, manipulate scores or rankings, or accept a benefit in exchange for a Submission without clearly disclosing it.
7. Standards for User Content
User Content must be accurate where it states facts, genuinely held where it states opinions, relevant and suitable for a general audience. It must not be false, misleading, fraudulent, defamatory, threatening, abusive, discriminatory, obscene or unlawful; infringe intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality or other rights; include personal contact details, private or sensitive information; advertise, promote, spam or contain unrelated links; impersonate anyone; contain malware; manipulate a score or ranking; or breach applicable law.
8. Rights in User Content
You keep any intellectual-property rights you hold. By submitting User Content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, use, edit, format and communicate it as needed to operate, improve and promote Al Desko. The licence continues while the content is used and for a reasonable period for backups, records, disputes and legal compliance. You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to make the Submission.
9. Scores, recommendations and rankings
We choose how scores, recommendations and rankings are calculated, weighted, presented and updated. We may change methods, exclude suspected manipulation and correct errors. Displayed scores are subjective indicators, not guarantees of quality, safety, availability or suitability. See how the score and rankings work.
10. Restaurant listings
You may suggest a restaurant, but we decide whether to create, amend or remove a listing and may verify information against public sources or information supplied by the restaurant. Restaurant owners and authorised representatives may use the report form to request a correction; evidence of identity, authority or accuracy may be required.
11. Moderation, reporting and removal
We may review Submissions and remove or restrict Content that may breach these Terms, applicable law or third-party rights, or harm the website's integrity, security or reputation. To report unlawful, inaccurate, infringing or inappropriate Content, use the report form and identify the page or restaurant, the concern and any necessary evidence. We may preserve or disclose relevant information where law permits or requires.
12. Intellectual-property complaints
Use the report form if you believe Content infringes rights you own or may enforce. Identify the protected work, the disputed Content, your rights and the remedy requested. We may restrict Content while assessing a complaint and request further evidence.
13. Prohibited use
You must not use the website unlawfully or fraudulently; disrupt, damage or overload it; introduce malware or attempt unauthorised access; scrape or extract Content except as allowed by robots.txt or written consent; evade security, rate limits or moderation; reverse engineer it where that restriction is lawful; misrepresent Content or remove notices; use Content to train or test an AI or machine-learning model without written consent; or use it for commercial comparison, resale, syndication or database services without written consent.
14. Availability and changes
We do not guarantee continuous, secure or error-free availability. We may suspend, withdraw, restrict or change the website for maintenance, security, legal, commercial or operational reasons. Updated Terms apply from the date shown here; stop using the website if you do not agree.
15. Third-party services and links
The website uses or links to services such as Google Maps, restaurant websites and directions. Third parties control those services and their own terms and privacy policies apply. We are not responsible for their availability, content, security or transactions. Location information may not be complete or accurate.
16. Privacy
Our Privacy & Cookies Policy explains how personal data, technical information, Submissions, Google Maps interactions and cookies are handled. Do not submit another person's personal data unless you are entitled to do so.
17. Disclaimers
The website and Content are provided on an “as available” basis for general information. We do not guarantee that listings, scores, rankings, locations or other Content are accurate, complete, current or suitable. Nothing is medical, dietary, allergen, legal, financial or other professional advice. Confirm allergies and dietary requirements directly with the restaurant.
18. Our liability
Nothing excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. If you are a consumer, we are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach or failure to use reasonable care and skill, but not unforeseeable loss. We are not responsible for restaurant or third-party acts, products or services, or for information you could reasonably have verified. We are not liable for business losses arising from consumer use. Mandatory consumer rights are unaffected.
19. Your responsibility
You are responsible for your use and User Content. If you use the website in business, you will reimburse reasonable losses and costs caused by your unlawful use or breach of your promises about User Content, except to the extent caused by us. This does not apply to a consumer acting wholly outside business.
20. Ending your use
You may stop at any time. We may restrict access, block a device or IP address, reject Submissions or take protective action if we believe these Terms were breached or the website was misused. Provisions intended to continue after use ends will survive.
21. General
We may transfer our rights and obligations, provided a consumer's rights are not reduced. You may not transfer yours without written consent. Each section operates separately. Delay in enforcement is not a waiver. These Terms and incorporated policies are the agreement about website use. No third party may enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
22. Governing law and disputes
English law governs these Terms. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction for consumers; consumers in Scotland or Northern Ireland may also use their local courts and retain mandatory protections. For business use, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
